Integrations

Reach Nova from WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail, Discord and Slack, collect posts from social and open sources, use 105 platforms in workflows, and connect other tools and agents through MCP and A2A.

This page covers everything SyntrofAI connects to outside itself, and how to connect each one. Model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google have their own page: Models and providers.

Most connections live in Settings → External. Social credentials live in Social → Settings, and MCP and A2A in Settings → MCP/A2A.

Talk to Nova outside the app

Messaging channels

Settings → External → Messaging Connectors. They keep running when the browser is closed.

  • WhatsAppLink a number by QR code
  • TelegramYour own bot
  • GmailTrusted senders, App Password
  • DiscordYour own bot
  • SlackYour workspace

Messaging connectors are under Settings → External → Messaging Connectors. Once enabled, they keep running when your browser is closed. Press Refresh Status in the Connector Status panel to see whether each one is live.

WhatsApp

  1. Turn on Enable WhatsApp.
  2. Choose a WhatsApp Mode. Self-chat means you message yourself and Nova answers in that chat. Dedicated number uses a separate WhatsApp number for Nova; enter it in Dedicated WhatsApp Number.
  3. Set WhatsApp Owner to your own number. This is the one person Nova will talk to.
  4. Optionally, add WhatsApp Agent Instructions, for example "keep answers short; ask before booking anything".
  5. Press Save, then Show WhatsApp QR, and scan the code from WhatsApp on your phone (Linked devices).

WhatsApp is linked as a device on that account, the same way WhatsApp Web is. It does not use the WhatsApp Business API. Goal check-ins and workflow results can reach you there.

Telegram

  1. In Telegram, create a bot with BotFather and copy the bot token it gives you.
  2. Turn on Enable Telegram, and fill in Telegram Bot Name and Telegram Bot Token.
  3. Choose a Telegram Group Mode. Mention or reply answers in groups only when the bot is mentioned or replied to. All group messages answers every message. Private only answers direct messages only.
  4. List who may use the bot in Allowed Telegram Users, and optionally add Telegram Agent Instructions.
  5. Press Save, then Test Telegram.

Gmail

  1. Turn on 2-step verification for the Google account, then create a Google App Password for it.
  2. Under Gmail Accounts, press Manage Gmail, then Add Gmail.
  3. Fill in Account name, Gmail address and Google App Password.
  4. Choose Check inbox every (from 15 seconds to 15 minutes) and Initial unread lookback.
  5. List Allowed senders, or turn on Allow every sender. Optionally choose a Project for new chats and add Email-only agent guidance.
  6. Turn on Enable inbox polling, save, and use Check and Send test on the account card.

Emails from trusted senders become Nova conversations, and Nova replies through Gmail. You can connect several inboxes. Each card shows a status: Live, Ready, Paused, Needs app password or Polling error. Email works with Gmail only, through an App Password.

In the app

Notifications and workflow results can also stay in the app. They appear in the notification inbox under the bell.

Social research and feed sources

Platforms

Read-only research tools for the AI, and sources for the Social feed. Credentials in Social → Settings.

  • RedditReddit app ID and secret
  • X (Twitter)X API token
  • InstagramAccount login
  • TikTokOptional session
  • YouTubeNo key, transcripts
  • TelegramChannels as a user
  • DiscordBot token
  • GitHubToken optional
  • Hacker NewsNo key
  • Product HuntNo key
  • BlueskyPublic discovery
  • MastodonPublic discovery
  • ThreadsPublic discovery
  • SubstackPublic discovery
  • LinkedInPublic discovery

The same credentials serve two purposes. They let Nova's research tools read these platforms, and they let the Social feed collect posts from them. Add them in Social → Settings → Platform Credentials. The same fields are also in Settings → Social. Everything here is read-only: SyntrofAI collects and reads posts, it does not post for you.

PlatformWhat it needs
RedditA Reddit app's Client ID, Client Secret and User Agent
X (Twitter)An X API Bearer Token, or the consumer and access keys
GitHubNothing, or a personal access token for higher limits
YouTubeNothing required; an API key is optional
TelegramAPI ID, API Hash, and a phone login with its code (plus the 2FA password if you use one)
DiscordA Bot Token, with the bot invited to the server
TikTokOptionally, a session cookie
InstagramAn account username and password, or a session file. A proxy is recommended when the instance runs in a data center.

Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Substack and LinkedIn are watched through public web search, so they need no account. Results are best effort.

Open sources, no key
  • RSS / Atom
  • News
  • Web
  • PubMed
  • arXiv

These open sources need no key at all. Add them as feed sources in Social → Settings.

Data steps in workflows

Workflows connect to 105 platforms: CRMs, spreadsheets, databases, payments, project tools, cloud services, social networks and more. Add a platform as a step from the Platforms panel in the Workflow editor. A platform step needs that platform's key on your instance; until it is there, the panel marks the step not connected.

Research databases

Nova's Knowledge Databases tool searches ten public registries in one go, with no keys: PubMed, arXiv, bioRxiv, medRxiv, ChEMBL, ClinicalTrials.gov, Open Targets, DailyMed, the NPI Registry and SEC filings.

MCP and A2A

Open standards
  • MCP serversUse their tools
  • MCP serverExpose Nova
  • A2AAgent to agent
  • External APIAPI key

Use tools from MCP servers

  1. Open Settings → MCP/A2A. Under External MCP Servers, press Open next to MCP Servers Configuration.
  2. In the JSON editor, add your servers under mcpServers. A local server takes command, args and env. A remote server takes url and headers. Each can also have disabled, description, init_timeout and tool_timeout.
  3. Press Apply now. SyntrofAI connects right away.
  4. Check the status list under the editor. Each server shows a status dot, its name, how many tools it offers (click the count for the list), and a Log link.

An example configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "files": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem", "/data/shared"]
    },
    "remote-tools": {
      "url": "https://mcp.example.com/sse",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

The editor's Examples button shows more, and Reformat tidies the JSON. MCP Client Init Timeout and MCP Client Tool Timeout set how long SyntrofAI waits for a server to start (default 60 seconds) and for a tool call (default 120 seconds). Once connected, the server's tools are available to Nova like built-in ones.

Let other systems use Nova

  • SyntrofAI MCP Server: turn on Enable SyntrofAI MCP Server and press Save. The connection example link shows the addresses to give an MCP client.
  • SyntrofAI A2A Server: turn on Enable A2A server so other agents can call Nova. The connection example shows the address.
  • Agent to Agent: going the other way, Nova's Agent to Agent tool can talk to an outside agent that speaks A2A, given its address.

External API and webhooks

  • External API: SyntrofAI has API endpoints authenticated with an X-API-KEY header. You can send messages and files, and work with chats, agents, memory, teams and tasks. Open Settings → External → External API → Show API Examples for the full reference with examples.
  • Workflow webhooks: give a workflow a Signed event trigger and publish it. Another system can then start it with signed requests. Create, rotate and revoke the signing key from the key button in the workflow editor.

Coding CLIs

Nova's Coding Agent tool can hand a coding job to a coding command-line tool installed and signed in on your instance: Codex, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Grok or OpenCode. Edits ask for your approval first. Ask your administrator which ones are set up.
